A formal ceremony was held on Wednesday, 24 June, at the Ceremonial Hall of the University of Macedonia, during which Mr. Charilaos Alamanos, President of the Institute of Education of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Greece (IESOEL), was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor by the Department of Accounting and Finance of the School of Business Administration, University of Macedonia.
The ceremony was attended by the Rector of the University of Macedonia, members of the academic staff of the School of Business Administration, representatives of the University community, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The honorary distinction recognises Mr. Alamanos’ distinguished career spanning more than four decades and his outstanding institutional contribution to the transformation of the auditing and accounting profession in Greece, the modernisation of its regulatory framework, and his enduring commitment to the advancement of professional education for Certified Public Accountants.
The ceremony programme included:
- Welcome address by the Rector of the University of Macedonia, Professor Stylianos D. Katranidis
- Welcome address by the Dean of the School of Business Administration, Professor Fotios Vouzas
- Welcome address by the Chair of the Department of Accounting and Finance, Professor Anestis Ladas
- Laudation by Professor Christos I. Negakis, Member of the University Council
- Conferment of the Honorary Doctorate upon Mr. Charilaos P. Alamanos by the Department of Accounting and Finance, School of Business Administration, University of Macedonia
- Acceptance speech by the Honorary Doctor, entitled “The Evolution of the Auditing Profession in Greece and the Challenges Ahead.”
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Alamanos expressed his sincere gratitude to the University of Macedonia for this distinguished honour. He emphasised that throughout his career in positions of high responsibility, his guiding principle had always been to serve the public interest, society and institutional integrity.
He further noted that the development and modernisation of the auditing profession have been founded on the principles of accountability, quality, close cooperation with the academic community, and alignment with international standards. He also underlined the pivotal role of IESOEL in educating and preparing the next generation of auditing professionals.
